PC-FXGA Book - Nnyu

10 01 2006

Hello,

Happy new year!!! 2006 starts with quite a nice and unique addition to my collection. I have been a fan of the PC-FX since it came out in 1994, it’s only in the past few years that I started collecting items for this platform. I’m currently very interested by the PC-FXGA and its 3D capabilities, it’s too bad that NEC and Hudson Soft never released the 3D adapter for the PC-FX it probably could have made a difference for the system at the time. Anyway…

I stumbled on this items which I call a “PC-FXGA programming book” (it’s probably not the accurate translation but I’ll try to a better job at that later.) on Yahoo Japan auction and a good friend of mine who lives in Japan, well … did all the hard job of bidding and sending it accross to me. Here are a few pictures:

Nnyu Book

So what’s so special about this book, well until tonight, I only had a look at the book itself and not had a close look at the 2 Cds that came with it. Until Kaminari on the www.pcenginefx.com forum sparked my curiosity. It turns out according to him that the first CD “the blue one” is in fact a game not only meant for the PC-FXGA but for the ill fated 3D adapter also. I’m thrilled so I checked the CD with a TOC reader and there it is this CD has a structure just like an FX game :). One track with a warning saying it’s an PC-FXGA game that it could damage your stereo, bla bla…, a data track and then audio tracks. I haven’t had time to pop it in my FX yet but I doubt something will happen at all.

The game is called Nnyu, I don’t know what type of game it is, it looks strange to me though. Well images are better than a thousand words from me, so I let you enjoy the (crap) pics I made from the book, I won’t be scanning this book at all so don’t ask, it is too fragile and old. Nor I will make the CDs public, so don’t ask.

The first pages of the book covers Nnyu, the rest of the book focuses more on programming the FXGA it contains listing of code in C for building several demos that you can play on your FXGA. Explanations on the compiler and the different libraries that come with the FXGA SDK. There is also explanations on how to use DogaGenie the 3D editor shipped with the book.

If you any questions, let me know trough the comments, if you have anything to add on this item please feel free, to put a comment or drop me an email.
